How much does it cost to practice at the Portland Dojo?
- $45 per month, $35 per month for a full time student.
- $15 per class for a single class. You can give Karate a try for $15!
- There is a discount for paying dues in advance:
- $10 discount for three months ($125)
- $70 discount for a prepaid year ($470)
- The prepayment applies to consecutive months and is non-refundable
Practice requirements and benefits:
- All participants must join our national organization, Shotokan Karate of America (SKA). Annual dues are $125 per year.
- Your SKA membership you allows you to:
- Participate in Special Trainings.
- Attend white and brown belt gradings for free and have your belt rank recognized nationally and internationally.
- As a member of SKA you will be able to attend any SKA regional, national, and international event open to your rank, and you’ll be able to test for rank twice per year at no charge. Black belt testing is by invitation.
What should I wear?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
I have never trained, do you have an absolute beginner’s program?
Monday is our beginners’ class. We have multiple black and brown belts available to provide you with extra support and encouragement.
Where can I get a uniform?
We have uniforms in various sizes available to try on and find your fit. Your order can be placed on the SKA website. Delivery is faster than Amazon!
Can I retain my rank from another style of martial arts?
We respect other styles and your knowledge may be transferable. When you practice with us you will be evaluated, ranked and encouraged to advance.
What is Special Training?
Special training sessions are intense SKA boot camps held at various locations all over the world. They are designed to give the practitioner the opportunity to polish their karate, push beyond their limitations, and interact with high level black belts.
